Alex And His New Home

Alex and his new home.

Alex the kitten was fast asleep dreaming of his brothers and sisters when a little girl’s voice awakened him. “Good morning Alex” the girl said.

Alex had forgotten that it was only yesterday the girl brought him home with her.

Alex looked up at the girl and gave a big stretch. The little girl reached down and scratched him on his favorite spot - between the ears near the back of his head. He started purring and was soon back asleep on the soft pillow.

Alex was startled awake by:
‘clomp, clomp, clomp, clomp’ and a ‘slam’
“What was that?” thought alex.

In a panic, Alex jumped from the bed to the window and saw the girl getting in a car.
“Oh no, where is she going? She forgot about me.”

His tiny paws scratched at the window trying to get out. It made a horrible sound but
the window stayed closed.

Alex jumped down and scurried to the front door. He slid to a stop bumping into the huge door. He put his little paw underneath and pulled with all his might. Alex lept at the door knob too. He had seen people use the knob before and figured he should try the same. But the door was just too big.

What could he do? Where did the girl go? Alex remembered his mom was in the house next door.

“That’s it! I can go ask mom, she will know what i should do.”

Alex was soon running through the house searching for a way out. He jumped on a chair to get on the counter top and to get to another window.

Alex could see his mom’s house but he just couldn’t get outside. “If i could only figure out how to get through.” alex thought.

“Okay Alex, what would mom do?”

Alex calmed down after remembering her words, “Remember your manners and how to behave like a good cat. You will be fine.”

Knowing the task was going to be difficult, Alex became determined to find a way out of his new home.

He pounced from room to room checking the windows and doors and looked behind everything.

In the kitchen, he looked behind the refrigerator and found only cobwebs.

In the living room, he searched behind the furniture and saw a dirty sock and a spider but no way out.

Alex’s hopes of getting to his mom began to dwindle. Then alex saw a door that was barely open.
“That has to be the way out” Alex exclaimed.

Excitement ran through his little body. He was so excited he slipped on the tile floor running toward the door. He grabbed under the door and pulled. he pulled so hard the door swung open and Alex lost his balance.

Before he new it, Alex was soaring through the air....and landed with a thump.

Confused, Alex shook off the dust and looked around. “Where am I? I haven’t seen a place like this.”

Alex didn’t know it but he was in the basement. It was dark and damp. Luckily he was a cat and cats have exceptional sight in the dark.

RUN ALEX, RUN - story of a kitten

The following is a story I have written for kids. I hope you enjoy it.

Alex was born one of seven kittens in his litter.

He was a lot like his mother; the same markings, same eyes and her shyness.

Other than his appearance Alex behaved like all the other kittens. Sleeping, sleeping, eating, a few meows and then sleeping again.

A few weeks had past; the kittens were getting bigger and it was almost time to go to their new homes. Alex wanted to stay with his brothers and sisters, but the people had began putting signs up around the neighborhood.
“Kittens to good home! Small adoption fee accepted.”

The first family had arrived. Alex did everything possible to make sure he didn’t get picked. He jumped on the table and knocked over a glass of milk. He thought to himself, ‘That will show them. No one would want a cat who jumps on tables. I know they won’t pick me now!’

Alex continued his antics every time someone came by to choose a kitten.

First he ran up a woman’s dress.

Next he decided to sing in his loudest kitten voice. "Mrrrow rrrowr rowwwwr!"

Then he tried to catch the pet fish.

Lastly he scratched on the furniture.

Alex started to worry.

“What am I going to do next.” Alex said to his mom.

“Alex” she said with affection. “Why are you acting this way? You have always been a well behaved kitten. You will be fine.”

Alex was running out of ideas.

Alex tried to listen to his mom but his mind wandered elsewhere.

“I got it! If they can’t see me, they won’t know I’m here.”

So Alex ran and hid and hid and hid.

More people came and went. Alex thought his plan was working.

The doorbell rang and Alex hurried to find a hiding spot. He made a break for the carpet and ,just in time, scurried underneath. He was listening to the people talk about why they wanted a cat. Then he heard it. “Meow.. Meow”

Alex slowly peeked out from underneath the rug. He saw a little girl kneeling down not more than two paws away. “Don’t panic.” he thought. Alex still wondered where that sound came from. The little girl with her black curly hair, almost in slow motion, opened her mouth and let out a welcoming, “meow.”

He was startled. He didn’t know what to do. Part of him felt relaxed and the other half told him to run. So he ran.

The little girl didn’t run after him. She giggled and pointed.

Alex confused, stopped in his tracks.

Alex’s eyes met hers while they both stood at opposite ends of the hallway.

Can this be? Everyone else chased me, but she stands there almost knowing what I’m thinking.” Alex crept toward her, waiting for her to grab him. The little girl knelt down and gently scratched him on his head.

Alex remembered his mom cleaning him, but never did she do this. “I like it.” Alex thought. "I had an itch there for days.”

Soon Alex started purring and rolled over on his side as the girl kept scratching and petting him.

Alex felt a calm feeling coming over him and suddenly realized he was no longer on the ground but cradled in the girl’s arms.

The girl gently walked toward another woman. Alex wasn’t sure who she was. The woman put her hand on the little girl’s back and started toward the door.

Alex didn’t try to escape. He just laid in the girl's arms looking up into her eyes.

"Bye Alex. Remember your manners and how to behave like a good cat. You will be fine.” He looked down at his mom and gave a meow bye.

Alex knew he would miss his mom but realized this new place could be great. And with that, Alex started on a new journey with a new family.
